Cultural Resources Specialist/Senior Archaeologist

In search of a Cultural Resources Specialist / Senior Archaeologist to manage technical studies and conduct project permitting on behalf of a wide variety of private, federal, state, and local government clients throughout the Rocky Mountain Region.  

 

Preferred candidates will have 3 or more years of past experience successfully leading cultural resources projects, including the organization, direction, and management of field teams.  Responsibilities also include independent management of archaeological and historical resources projects, review and preparation of technical reports and site forms, contributing cultural resource expertise to National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documents, business development, and customer relations with representatives of oil and gas companies and other industries.  

Required knowledge and skills:

  • MA/MS in Archaeology or Cultural Resource Management, preferably with an emphasis in the cultural resources of Colorado, Utah, and Wyoming.

  • Must meet the Secretary of the Interior’s Professional Qualifications Standards for Archaeology or History.

  • Demonstrated expertise in the application and interpretation of Section 106 of the NHPA and other state (especially Colorado, Utah, and Wyoming) and federal laws, regulations, and procedures related to cultural resources, specifically including NAGPRA and ARPA.

  • Minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible cultural resources duties in a consulting environment to include effective supervision of field staff and overall project management from start to finish.

  • Holds necessary permits (i.e., PI/Field Supervisor) or can quickly obtain permits with state SHPOs and agencies (e.g., BLM, Forest Service, etc.) in order to perform archeological field surveys (Class I, II, and III inventories) and report writing for projects in Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, etc.

  • Demonstrated effectiveness with performing Business Development activities to include sales calls, preparing proposals, budget management, research designs, work schedules, and technical reports.

  • Technical writing, problem solving, organizational, and strong interpersonal communication skills.

  • Knowledge of Native American and historic Euro-American cultures of the Rocky Mountain Region.

  • Knowledge of equipment and techniques used in archaeological fieldwork.

  • Ability to prepare reports that meet the established state and federal guidelines for cultural resources.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, community members, government officials, clients, and the general public.

  • Ability to perform all physical requirements of the position.

  • Ability to pass a Pre-Employment Physical and Drug Testing.

Additional desired qualifications/skills include:

  • Previous NEPA experience, including experience conducting Impact Assessments of Project Alternatives on Cultural Resources.

  • Knowledge of the oil and gas industry.

  • Ability to facilitate the Section 106 consultation process as necessary, with Native American Tribal representatives, government officials, and interested members of the public.

  • Experience conducting data recovery and construction monitoring.

  • Experience with Historic Property Treatment Plans or HABS HAER Documentation.

  • Experience conducting ethnographic research.

  • Strong navigational skills using topographic maps, a compass, and GPS.

  • Experience in the operation of 4x4 trucks, trailer towing, and all-terrain vehicle operation.

  • Familiarity with GIS and/or mapping software.

  • First Aid and CPR certification.

Wildlife &  Botany Biologists

Seasonal Field Technicians

Will hire 5 Seasonal Biologists to collect data on wildlife and plant communities within designated proejct areas located throughout Colorado and Utah.  Requires an ability to:

  • Reliably identify plant and wildlife species and habitats as well as plant species within the montane, subalpine, and foothills zones.  
  • Reliably locate and navigate to project areas, complete field forms, operate and maintain GPS units, digital cameras, and other field equipment, and manage collected data.
  • Enter and maintain data in electronic formats (databases, spreadsheets, and GPS).
  • Thoroughly document all fieldwork using field notebooks, survey forms, maps, and cameras.

Minimum Requirements

  • At least 2 years of college level coursework leading toward a BS Degree in Botany, Ecology, Natural Resources, or related field; BS degree preferred;

  • Familiarity with wildlife and flora of the western United States;

  • Experience in the Rocky Mountain region preferred;

  • Ability to work efficiently as a team member, without direct supervision;

  • Knowledge of wildlife and vegetation sampling techniques;

  • Ability to use a dichotomous plant key to identify species;

  • Ability to navigate using topographic maps, compass, and GPS;

  • Ability to work long hours in the field, in inclement weather; and

  • Must be willing to travel extensively.

Salary:   $15/hr & OT for Hours worked in excess of 40 per week

Air Quality Permit Specialist

Seeking entry level candidate who is an ambitious Engineer or Scientist with a specialty in Air Quality and a background in the Environmental and/or Atmospheric Science fields.  Minimal air quality work experience required; familiarity with Dispersion Modeling, Emissions Inventories, BACT analysis, Title V, PSD and minor source permitting preferred.  Excellent customer service, good oral and written communication skills and an understanding of how AQ issues relate to O&G industry preferred.

NEPA Project Manager

Seeking a NEPA Specialist/Project Manager with 5 or more years of experience to lead NEPA documentation and compliance projects. This includes Categorical Exclusions, Environmental Assessments and Environmental Impact Statements, the preparation of proposals, scopes of work, budgets, and the oversight of technical staff.

Responsibilities include:
The review, preparation, editing, and compilation of Environmental Assessments, Environmental Impact Statements, FERC Resource reports, and other miscellaneous environmental documents and:.

  • The management of the financial performance of individual NEPA projects.
  • Achievement in business development with oil and gas clients, and the establishment of credibility with reviewing agencies.
  • The ability to cooperatively work with and oversee the work of various staff engineers and scientists on NEPA projects/reports.
  • A contribution to Buys’ expanding professional reputation in environmental consulting.

Qualifications include:

  • A Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, biology, natural resources management, or a related field.
  • Five or more years of demonstrated expertise in federal, state, and local laws and regulations related to NEPA management in Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, and the Rocky Mountain region.
  • Excellent organization, communication, and management skills, plus the ability to see projects through to completion.
  • Direct project experience with federal agencies.
  • Secondary expertise in planning, ecology, land use, mining, grazing ecology, geology/soils or other natural resource assessment relevant in the West is an advantage.
