Regulatory Compliance
(Confidential Client), Industrial Company, Houston, Texas
This client contracted with Buys and Associates, Inc. to design a regulatory compliance program that addressed SARA Title III and chemical handling, waste handling and disposal, Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasures (SPCC) plans and stormwater runoff.
The client operates 17 sites in seven states. Each site was audited and measured against a management plan for the above issues. It was determined that at several sites waste handling procedures required significant changes. Buys and Associates provided a management plan for each site, conducted the necessary training and instituted a record keeping program. We also coordinated a semiannual waste disposal run for many of these sites over the last several years.
In addition to the needed changes detailed above, several sites were found to be improperly handling wash-water from steam cleaners and other industrial uses. At several of these sites, we prepared permits that were necessary for the discharge of industrial wastewater to the POTW. At other sites, closed loop wastewater treatment systems were installed to handle the industrial wastewater.
Environmental and Safety Compliance Audit, Regulatory Assistance
(Confidential Client), Oil and Gas Production Company, Denver, Colorado
This Client contracted with Buys & Associates to conduct an environmental and safety compliance audit for their North Dakota operations. The first phase of the review was to conduct an environmental and safety audit at approximately 50 producing oil and gas wells. As part of the audit, all permits and well files in the corporate and field offices were reviewed.
Once the audits were complete, a list of recommendations was prepared to help the client address those areas that required immediate attention. After recommendations were agreed to, we prepared the HAZ-COMM and SARA Title III programs for inclusion in the existing environmental program. In addition, several changes to the waste handling and disposal practices were made. Resolution was achieved through a meeting conducted with the foremen and pumpers to explain the goals of the audit and discuss the role that field personnel play in the compliance program.
